To all her friends.
Maggie May, after a short and debilitating illness has left us and moved to Rainbow Ridge, which is close to her Wanaka home and was a place that she has visited often in the past and remembers with fondness. For all of her 13.5 years Maggie May, (Maigold of Westloch) upheld the finest traditions of  Golden Retrievers everywhere and was a true friend that loved nothing better than to be with the people she knew and loved. Anne and Roger will miss her greatly. She was indeed a Good Dog.

The Legend of Rainbow Bridge (Abridged by Roger)

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food and water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.

A message from Maggie's good friend Holly
My parents have told me my dear friend Maggie has gone to heaven. I think we have been very fortunate to have such a wonderfully precious life with these lovely people. Sometimes I think I rule their life as you probably did also but we do return an unconditional love to them. Remember all the good walks you had together, the times you had your tummy rubbed and all the intimate chats you shared that only "doggy" parents understand. My parents wonder how long I am going to keep going....I have a new winter blanket which my Father found at a second hand shop, my Mother washed it and hung it on the line for the sun to remove any nasties and I've actually had it on a couple of nights already. It"s blue and cream pastel colours and apparently they're the new colour of Winter (it doesn't really matter so long as it keeps me cosy). I still chase the odd bunny but they seem to be faster than me these days. I hope you are at peace and your troubles are gone. Just keep dreaming of bones and all the care and cuddles you had together. It's funny you know - but I have tears in my eyes just thinking about you. I hear you go to a really lovely place where we all meet up again so watch out for me Maggie - I'll still have my scarf on - I hope they iron it each morning like my mother does. It's going to be a very noisy woofy greeting when we all meet up isn't it. I guess we'll all look a lot older but we'll remember each other. I'm sure your Mother and Father have lots of lovely pics to remind them of you  - i'ts a bit like humans isn't it - We have pics of Grandad around the house. Have a big snooze Maggie, eat everything that's put in front of you and remember me when I come through the gates. Woof Woof...Holly Brown  (Wanaka Garden Centre)

 May 2009  Holly joins Maggie

Maggie - Here I am. Now we can be together forever. I told you I would come and be with you and I got a tumour in my leg and was put to sleep but we will be so happy together and our parents will always talk and remember the wonderful life we shared. Now we can look after each other... Holly
