Wanaka Art
Roger Urlwin Photographic Landscape Artist

I first started taking photographs seriously about 50 years ago .
Right from the start I developed a love affair with the New Zealand landscape and set up a darkroom in my laundry, producing quality black and white prints that won many local and international awards.

Years passed and my wife and I moved to a house that would struggle to accommodate the standard "wet" darkroom and I decided to embrace new technology and established one of the earliest "hobby" electronic darkrooms in Christchurch and started to produce quality prints without blackout curtains. In 1999 I was awarded an Associateship of the Photographic Society of New Zealand with work printed entirely on early inkjet printers and in 2002 after moving our home to Wanaka I won the 2002 Laurie Thomas New Zealand Landscape salon with an image titled "Play of Light"
As a Photographic Society of N.Z panel judge I am involved in club photography New Zealand wide and give numerous presentations to camera clubs in the South Island. As a member of the Photographic Society of America I lead an internet study group on digital imaging.
Currently I am President of Wanaka SeniorNet which includes a photographic study website and I enjoy tutorial work at the Wanaka Camera Club and privately.

The quality of the landscape and light in this area is outstanding and my continual goal is to produce
images that capture the emotion that was present when I pressed the camera shutter.
All my work is now produced on "Ultrachrome" long life pigment printers on a variety of plain and textured papers.
